Did you know 75% of rural Iowans know the 9 major symptoms of a heart attack, but only 40% reported they would call 911?

Heart disease is the No. 1 global cause of death. So why don’t more Iowans call 911 as soon as they recognize their symptoms?

Maybe it’s because 44% of rural Iowans don’t know they may not be charged if an ambulance arrives but doesn’t need to transport them to a hospital.

Or because 1/4 of rural Iowans didn’t know they could choose the local hospital they prefer.

It could be that not enough people know that emergency care starts with EMS, and that by calling 911 you can receive lifesaving treatment up to 1 hour faster than driving yourself. One hour could save your life.

There is no such thing as a little heart attack.
